This Week: Ideas about Data Collection

I just emailed Dr. Zamora in order to share some ideas about data collection. until the start of this semester, IRB was not a concern. I had not been planning to conduct any interviews or to interact with others in any considerable manner. I had been planning on studying source texts and other written work.

As I move more towards studying the act of writing itself, here are some ideas that I have about data collection:

1. participate in or use questions and responses from "ask me anything"s on Tumblr. This is when a fanfic writer or someone from a community will post a series of questions on their blog and you can pick one for them to answer. They post the answers on their blog as well.

2. A case study of a  fanfiction writer and their beta reader. Reach out to a writer and ask if I can ask questions of them and their beta in order to better understand the process.

3. Write a fanfiction myself and seek out a beta in order to learn first hand.

4. Ask bloggers from the Tumblr community if I can interview them. (This would not be in-person, but rather through Tumblr.)
